Former EliteXC Heavyweight star Brett Rogers is set to make his debut for Strikeforce on April 11th in a bout against former Iron Ring veteran Ron Humphries. The bout is expected to be the last fight to fill out the televised portion of the card that will air on Showtime and will replace the bout between Jake Shields and Joe Riggs that was scrapped to allow for Shields to face Robbie Lawler in a catchweight superfight in May.
Rogers has not fought since appearing on EliteXC's first CBS primetime card in May of 2008 in a fight where he defeated Jon Murphy via KO in the first round. Rogers is 8-0 in his MMA career and holds a win over James Thompson while under the EliteXC banner. Rogers was scheduled to fight against Paul Buentello on a November 8th EliteXC card, but that show was cancelled. He was also rumored to be part of January's Affliction show, but those plans fell through as well.
Humphries, whose bouts on Iron Ring did not count towards his professional record, is 5-0 with 5 KO/TKO's to his credit. His last fight came in December of 2008 when he stopped Nick Thomas at an ISCF show in Wisconsin in just over two minutes. All five of Humphries victories have come in the first round.
Strikeforce's debut on the Showtime premium cable network will take place when the company holds their first event since acquiring the assets of Pro Elite Inc. on April 11th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. The night will be headlined by a catchweight bout between Nick Diaz and former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Frank Shamrock.
