10 Questions With Sal Woods (by Darrick Patrick)

Sal Woods is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Warrior Concepts, Take That Promotions, Shootfighting Challenge, and the Xtreme Fighting Organization. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Tyron Woodley at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields on June 6th, 2009.

Darrick: How did you end up competing in professional mixed martial arts?

Sal: After I was done with wrestling in college and got kicked out for fighting, my life was missing that rough aspect. So, I started getting into a bunch of fights. It didn't take long for me to realize that was not a good idea. I called one of my old high school wrestling coaches named Steve Knogl who had been involved in MMA for awhile and here I am today.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Sal: Give it one hundred percent or don't do it at all.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Tyron Woodley on June 6th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Sal: I am pretty excited about this fight with Tyron. It is definitely gonna' be a great show. Our match should be really good, so be sure to pay attention to this one.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Sal: I respect everybody who is involved with the sport because you have to have balls to get into the cage. Mixed martial arts isn't for everyone.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Sal: For me it's knowing that all of the hard work I put in was well worth it.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Sal: My grandmother and grandfather were two of my major influences. They showed me that hard work and dedication will eventually pay off.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Sal: Relaxing and spending time with my son, Henrix Robert Woods.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Sal: The earliest memory that I have is when my brother and I almost burned down my grandparent's house.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Sal: Outside of the gym, I am the laziest person you could meet.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Sal: I would have to say that I would probably just be breaking stuff and blowing shit up.
