Tyson eats sloppy joes, reads 'American Gangster' in day of jail

PHOENIX -- Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson ate sloppy joes and read the mobster epic "American Gangster" during his 24-hour jail term at an open-air facility in Phoenix.

Sheriff's officials say Tyson was released from the Tent City jail Wednesday morning after serving the one-day sentenced for a DUI conviction.

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to one count of felony cocaine possession and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. The charges stem from his arrest last year after leaving Scottsdale's Pussycat Lounge.

Police said they saw Tyson brush a white powder off his dashboard, and they found baggies of cocaine in Tyson's pockets and in his BMW.

Tyson was held in a secluded part of Tent City, apart from the 1,500 other inmates.

Tyson also was sentenced to three years' probation, must perform 360 hours of community service and must undergo drug testing.
