10 Questions With George Bush (by Darrick Patrick)
George Bush is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Gracie Fighting Championships, YAMMA Pit Fighting, Gracie Proving Ground, and Hammer House Cage Fighting events such as Friday 13th, Thanksgiving Throwdown 2, and Redemption. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Abongo Humphrey in Strikeforce at ShoMMA 7: Johnson vs. Mahe on March 26th, 2010.
Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
George: I grew up with a cable scrambler, so I've been watching the UFC events since the very beginning. I have been looking for my place in the sport ever since.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
George: Be humble. There is always someone out there that can and will beat your ass.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
George: Mark Coleman has taken me under his wing and always has been there to help me improve my game. Brian Van De Walle made me a man as far as the cage is concerned. B.J. Penn is the nicest, most down-to-earth fighter I have met so far.
Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Abongo Humphrey on March 26th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?
George: I'm very excited to step back into the cage. It's been almost two years since my last match and I am ready to show the world what my trainers and I have been working on. Abongo looks pretty tough and I don't anticipate an easy fight. From what I can tell, this is going to be a fun one to watch.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
George: I like martial arts because I have the chance to test myself every day and improve upon my skills. Just like how a farmer works their land and finds different ways to improve production, I get to do so on a different level and find the best ways to train my body to be a fighting machine.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
George: Everybody that ever said that I couldn't make it. I will keep the names to myself, but I'd like to thank them for the motivation.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
George: Hunting and working on my cabin in the mountains. Anything outdoors does me just fine.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
George: I think little kids are awesome.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
George: When I was three years old, my mom hit two deer within two days. Both were messy.
Darrick: If you were stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of your life, what three items would you take in with you besides food and water?
George: I hate being indoors, so if I was alone I would take in a bottle of Patrón, my 1911, and one Hydra-Shok bullet. If there were other people in the bomb shelter with me, it would be chaos. I would take in a bottle of Patrón, my 1911, and a case of Hydra-Shok bullets.
