10 Questions With Zach Underwood (by Darrick Patrick)

Zach "Thunderwood" Underwood is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Empire Fighting Championships, Relentless MMA, Harrah's Tunica Fights, HB Dick Promotions, and Cage Assault. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Hunter Worsham at Strikeforce: Nashville on April 17th, 2010.

Darrick: What was the journey that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Zach: I have played sports my entire life and I've always been a gym rat. I love the competition of it all. It didn't hurt my journey either by my mom always putting out the mattress and letting my brother and I fight when we were little. Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Zach: My parents have been the most influential. They are the ones that I have primarily listened to in life. Together they taught me that hard work pays off and to never give up.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Zach: Cardio, cardio, and cardio.

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Hunter Worsham on April 17th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Zach: I've just been training my ass off like I do for every other fight so that I can go out there and make sure that I don't get my ass kicked. (Laughs)

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Zach: The discipline, the competiton, and the opportunity that you have to you learn something new every day.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Zach: My brother Jake, who gave up fighting to train me and my teammates, pushes me to my limit twice a day. Andy Uhrich and Min Kang from Team Vortex have been with us from the start and have helped us so much. I also have a lot of respect for the guys in our gym (Team Relentess) who I train with on a daily basis.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Zach: Movies, hot women, and having my alone time.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Zach: Coming out of my momma' twenty-six years ago throwing punches.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Zach: I have an imaginary friend named Bill Bates.

Darrick: If you had three wishes, what would they be?

Zach: The first one would to be in an open relationship with a hot supermodel girlfriend. My second wish would be that my brother Jake will someday get a tan. The last is that I'll someday take life a little more seriously. (Laughs)
