10 Questions With Jon Madsen (by Darrick Patrick)

Jon Madsen is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Crossroads Combat Challenge, and The Cage Inc. He also appeared on the tenth season of the television show The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights. At the time of this very short interview, his next scheduled match is against Karlos Vemola in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin on July 3rd, 2010.

Darrick: What was the journey that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Jon: My whole life has led me to the sport. I started wrestling at the age of four years old and have always been a competitor. I still had the drive to compete after college and I thought that mixed martial arts fits my training/competitive style.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Jon: I respect anybody willing to get into the cage to fight. Some of the fighters that I do enjoy watching more than others though includes Brock Lesnar, "Shogun" Rua, and Robbie Lawler.

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Karlos Vemola on July 3rd. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Jon: Karlos is a great fight for me. This one should be very exciting for the crowd.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Jon: I'd say the constant challenge of each discipline. There is always something new to learn and train.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Jon: Make sure that you have a great foundation and then go after it. If you want to compete, then do whatever it takes to win.

Darrick: Who is someone that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Jon: I had a grandfather named Duane "Skip" Long who mentored me and I really looked up to him. He was a great man for me to try to mimick.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Jon: I enjoy camping, fishing, and spending time with my family.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Jon: I remember lighting a bed on fire when I was three years old. Oh, and my little brother was still in the bed sleeping! I got into trouble for that one. (Laughs)

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Jon: My life is an open book. There isn't much about me that I haven't told anyone.

Darrick: If you had superpowers, what would they be?

Jon: There aren't any superpowers in particular that I'd want really. I've always been fascinated with vampires though, so I would take their powers.
